Vail Rec District - Inaugural Minturn Downriver Dash

Vail Recreation District racing season is in full swing, and we couldn't be more excited to introduce a NEW whitewater event this spring! Join us for the inaugural Minturn Downriver Dash on Saturday, June 5th. Sign up at www.vailrec.com/register.

Save money by registering early! Cost is $35/kayak, $50/2-person raft if registered by June 1; $45/kayak, $60/2-person raft if registered after June 1. The entry fee includes shuttle, raffle prizes, food and beer at the post-race party at the Minturn Saloon.

This whitewater event is open to kayakers and R2 raft teams (raft team must provide their own boat, up to 12'). Kayak racers start at 4 p.m. and raft teams start at 5 p.m. The race format will be a single-run time trial.

The races begin at the Boneyard Open Space south of town and finish at the Minturn Saloon. Racers should park at the finish in the Town of Minturn municipal lot adjacent to the Turntable. The VRD will provide shuttles to the start for racers and gear.

Spectating will be available all along the course, but the majority of the action will take place at the finish by the Minturn Saloon.

“We have been talking about doing a whitewater race in Minturn for a couple of years,” said Beth Pappas, VRD Race Director. “Based on the participation in our other whitewater races this year, and the interest from the Eagle Valley Land Trust and the Eagle River Watershed Council in partnering for an event, this seemed like the perfect time to debut this race! For racers, this is a great warm up for the GoPro Mountain Games and spectators will have a blast watching the action from the deck of the Minturn Saloon.”
