Maintenance Worker I or II

The Town of Minturn is seeking a hardworking, dependable Maintenance Worker I or II to join the Public Works team. This position performs a wide range of physically demanding outdoor work supporting the maintenance, repair, and improvement of town streets, utilities, parks, public buildings, and other public infrastructure. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, team-oriented, and ready to work in all weather conditions, including snow events, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs as needed.

Hiring Range
Maintenance Worker I: $24.85-$28.58/hour
Full hourly range up to $37.16/hour

Maintenance Worker II: $29.82-$34.30/hour
Full hourly range up to $44.59/hour

Starting pay will depend on qualifications, certifications, experience, and internal equity.

Position Summary
This position performs maintenance and construction-related work for the Town’s public infrastructure and facilities. Work includes manual labor, operation of tools and equipment, snow and ice control, facility and grounds maintenance, traffic control setup, and emergency response support. Maintenance Worker II employees also perform more skilled and independent equipment, utility, and roadway maintenance work and may help train less experienced staff.

Examples of Duties
Maintenance Worker I

  • Performs manual labor related to streets, sidewalks, storm drains, water and sewer systems, parks, and public facilities
  • Operates light equipment and tools such as pickup trucks, trailers, mowers, trimmers, snow blowers, jackhammers, and compactors
  • Assists with snow and ice control operations
  • Supports traffic control setup in work zones
  • Loads and unloads materials, supplies, and debris
  • Performs basic maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment
  • Assists with landscaping, painting, carpentry, and minor building repairs
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies and on-call assignments as needed

Maintenance Worker II

  • Performs all Maintenance Worker I duties, plus:
  • Operates heavy trucks and equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, graders, backhoes, and snow plows
  • Independently performs snow and ice control operations during storm events
  • Conducts roadway and drainage maintenance, including grading, patching, ditch cleaning, culvert repair, and sign installation
  • Assists with installation and repair of water and sewer infrastructure
  • Helps train Maintenance Worker I employees and seasonal staff
  • Maintains work logs and service records
  • Supports compliance with Town safety policies, work zone safety standards, and OSHA requirements

Minimum Qualifications
Maintenance Worker I

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Some experience in construction, maintenance, landscaping, or related labor work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to obtain a Colorado Class B CDL within 6 to 12 months of hire
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor and work outdoors in varied weather conditions

Maintenance Worker II

  • Meets Maintenance Worker I qualifications, plus:
  • Two or more years of experience in construction, maintenance, utility, or public works operations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Colorado Class B CDL at time of hire
  • Experience operating heavy trucks and equipment
  • Working knowledge of traffic control, safe work zone practices, and street, utility, and drainage maintenance methods

Work Environment
This position is primarily outdoors and requires strenuous physical activity in varied weather and temperature conditions, including winter storms and high-altitude conditions. The position may require weekend, holiday, overtime, and emergency response work.
