Future Plans

The Minturn Visioning Committee meets on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. to discuss new ideas and projects for the town of Minturn. At a recent retreat with the Minturn Town Council, the following ideas were proposed. Tell us how you feel about these potential projects, or any new ideas you might have improving the Town of Minturn.

I. Amphitheater at La Playuella Park

A. Purpose
1. To provide a venue for outdoor events, concerts and group events
2. To improve the existing park
3. To generate revenue (actual dollars, sales tax and residual business) for Town of Minturn

B. Scope of Project ($150,000+)
1. Conceptual plan (partially presented)
2. Engineering
3. Build-out (power, water, restrooms, sound system, staging, concession booth, fencing)

C. Funding Ideas
1. Minturn Community Fund
2. Sponsorship (beer, soda, electronics, local business, local music foundations)
3. Eventual ticket and concession sales
4. Town of Minturn budget

II. Main Street Project

A. Purpose
1. To provide more attractive entrance to Minturn
2. To provide safer utilities to locals and visitors
3. To recognize our historic past

B. Scope of Project ($300,000+)
1. Functional, attractive lighting for 100-500 blocks
2. New sidewalks
3. Stamped concrete
4. Improved crosswalks
5. Decorative features (flags, banners, flowers, holiday lighting)
6. Signage

C. Funding Ideas
1. Local contractors
2. Private donations
3. Grants
4. Town of Minturn budget

III. Water Tower Observation Deck

A. Purpose
1. To renovate and improve one of Minturn’s historic facades
2. To provide a venue for year-round, valley-wide observation of historic structures, wildlife and geography, as well as for outdoor events and educational programs
3. To generate revenue (actual dollars, sales tax and residual business) for Town of Minturn

B. Scope of Project ($200,00)
1. Engineering
2. Water tank restoration (exterior)
3. Cantilever deck and staircase
4. Interpretive signage

C. Funding Ideas
1. Corporate and individual donations
2. Selling steps
3. Eventual rental fees
4. Grants
5. Town of Minturn budget

IV. Marketing Plan

A. Purpose
1. To improve Minturn’s public perception
2. To increase visitor traffic to Minturn
3. To increase revenues for Minturn

B. Scope of Project (self-funding)
1. Email list
2. Weekly newspaper advertising
3. Monthly/quarterly newsletter
4. Website
5. Welcome signs at town entrances
6. Additional events (outdoor adventure, concerts, weddings)

C. Funding Ideas
1. Town of Minturn budget
a. Full-time staff to coordinate marketing, economic development and events

V. Old Town Hall

A. Purpose
1. To provide community center for residents, children, seniors and visitors
2. To reduce nuisance of current structure
