CAR SEAT SAFETY

Did you know that 4 out of 5 child safety seats are used incorrectly?

Make sure your loved ones are buckled properly.

Proper installation of child seats can result in:

  • 71% effectiveness in reducing infant death
  • 54 % effectiveness in reducing toddler death
  • 69% reduction in hospital visits

Colorado’s Child Passenger Safety Law (CPS) provides guidelines for keeping your infant, toddler and school-aged children safe while in the car.

  • Infants must ride in a rear-facing child safety seat until they are least one year old and weigh at least 20 pounds.
  • Children from ages 1 to 4, who weight 20 to 40 pounds, must be restrained in a forward-facing child seat.
  • Children who weigh over 40 pounds or who at least 4 years but less than 6 years must be properly restrained in a child booster seat or with a child safety belt positioning device, unless they are 55” tall.
