The Town of Minturn is offering free collection of discarded live Christmas trees this year. Collection of trees will take place from Wednesday, December 28, 2011 through Friday, January 6, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. Trees must be free of any adornments, such as lights, tinsel, ornaments, plastic and tree stands. Trees should be placed near the side of the road; however, it is important that the tree does not block the roadway in any manner.
The Minturn Public Works Department staff will make regular pick-ups throughout town to collect the trees between now and January 6th at 3:00 p.m. Should your tree not be picked up within a few days of being placed near the roadside, please contact Minturn Town Office staff at (970) 827-5645. In addition, should you wish to schedule a pick-up of your tree, please contact the same telephone number.
The collected trees will be utilized for a Bonfire event to be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. The Bonfire will be held in the upper parking lot of Little Beach Park. There will be free hot chocolate, as well as marshmallows for roasting. Please come out and enjoy this family friendly activity.

The 2011 Parade of Lights will be held in Minturn on Saturday, December 17, 2011 beginning at 5:30 p.m. The parade will stage in the 300 Block of Pine Street in front of Town Hall, proceed to Harrison Avenue and begin in the 300 Block of Main Street. The Parade will progress down Main Street through the 100 Block and onto Railroad Avenue, ending at the Municipal Lot across from the Turntable Restaurant and Motel. As it may be cold once the sun goes down, we encourage everyone to dress appropriately so you may enjoy the parade.
During the parade, Town staff will be handing out free glow necklaces to all the children. In addition, there will be a Santa’s Throne Ice Sculpture located in front of the Minturn Country Club where children of all ages can pose to have their picture taken (please bring your own camera).
There will be traffic delays in the Town of Minturn from 5:30 p.m. to approximately 6:00 p.m. due to a temporary road closure on Main Street to accommodate the Parade. Please plan your trip through Town to accommodate the expected traffic delays. Better yet, avoid the traffic delays and join us for the Parade and Holiday fun! We invite everyone to come out and enjoy the parade with your neighbors, family and visitors. After the parade, we encourage you to visit Minturn Businesses as you enjoy the holiday cheer in Minturn.
Remember, the Minturn Winter Market will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Santa will be present at the entire Market to visit with the children and to hand out candy canes. There will be a variety of vendors at the Market for your everyday and holiday shopping pleasure. In addition, there are always many great businesses in Minturn for further shopping excitement.

Minturn Police Department will be taking part in the National Drug Take Back Initiative on Saturday, October 29, 2011. The time frame is 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and the location is the lobby of the Town Hall Building. Anyone may bring their prescription or over the counter medications to be disposed of at that time. This is a nationwide initiative sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). This is the second time that the Minturn Police Department will be participating in the event. The first two Take-Back events in Colorado were very successful and netted almost 12 tons of returned medications!

National Drug Take Back Initiative:
On Saturday, October 29th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is sponsoring its third National Pharmaceutical Take-Back Day in Eagle County. All types of medications will be accepted, including narcotics and other DEA controlled substances, all prescription and non-prescription medications. Let's all participate by cleaning out those expired, unused and unwanted pharmaceuticals from the medicine cabinet and get them disposed of properly.
The Pharmaceutical Take-Back Day is a concerted effort between the DEA and local law enforcement agencies and has the following goals:

VSSA students, parents, teachers and coaches, please join our community for a morning of giving back to environment. We have volunteered to clean the shores of the Eagle River from the Maloit Park turn-off South towards Gilman and Red Cliff. This is a great opportunity to show Minturn our commitment to the community and improve the health of the river we call home. We will meet at VSSA at 8:45am to organize and get to work.
On Saturday, September 10, over 350 volunteers from Eagle County companies, local governments, clubs, associations and groups of friends will disperse along 55 miles of Gore Creek and the Eagle River from Redcliff and East Vail to Dotsero to pick up trash.
The clean up will run from 9am until 12 and afterwards volunteers and their families are invited to the Broken Arrow at Arrowhead from 12-2pm for a free barbecue, with music from Schwing Daddy.

After serving the community for the past 33 years, Minturn Middle School will be closing. Please join us for our closing ceremony on June 10 at 11 am. Guest speakers will include State Representative Dr. Millie Hammer. The community is invited to take a final walk through the building and to share their stories and memories of the school. Light refreshments will be served. The ceremony will be held at Minturn Middle School located at 1951 South Highway 24 in Minturn, Colorado. Additionally, alumni who have painted ceiling panels may make arrangements for retrieval of their panels, if they wish. Ceiling panels may be picked up between June 14 -17. On Friday, June 3, 2011, the Public Works Department will be working on a water leak that was discovered on Thursday, June 2, 2011 in the 400 Block of Main Street. As the Public Works Department works to diagnose and address the problem, there is a possibility a water shut-off will be necessary. The impacted area would include all areas north of the 800 Block of Main Street , to include Taylor Avenue and the area of Meadow Mountain Business Park. Updates will be posted on the Town website as they occur. There will be gallon jugs of water available at the Town Hall Building should you need some to tide you over should a water shut-off occur.

Xcel Energy is hosting a public Open House on Thursday, June 2 from 6-8 pm at the Avon Public Library, 200 Benchmark Road, to provide a construction update as we replace eight miles of natural gas pipeline along U.S. Highway 6 between Edwards and Minturn. The presentation includes information about current and upcoming construction locations. We also want to hear the community's feedback and answer their questions.

The Town of Minturn Clean-Up Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 14th from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Beginning at 7:00 a.m., residents may bring unwanted items to the Minturn Municipal Lot, located across from the Turntable Restaurant and Motel. This event provides the citizens of Minturn with a free and convenient receptacle to deposit their appliances, debris and undesired items from their property and home spring cleaning. The Minturn Public Works Department staff and the Eagle River Fire Protection District staff will be present to help unload vehicles at the Municipal Lot.

Due to unforeseen road conditions on the other side of Loveland Pass, the construction company was not able to transport the modular home to Pine Street in Minturn today,
Thursday, January 13, 2011. As a result, the 500 Block of Pine Street will now be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 14, 2011 for delivery and installation of the home.
Please plan an alternate travel route if you normally travel that portion of Pine Street.
Construction personnel will begin arriving on Friday at 7:00 a.m. to prepare for the arrival and set up of the modular home. Those residents impacted by the road closure may park in the St. Patrick’s Parrish Parking lot located in the 400 block of Pine Street.
In addition, there will be flaggers present Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. whom will allow for some local traffic to pass through if and when it is safe to do so. The flaggers will permit coordinated access to businesses located in the 500 Block of Pine Street. The road is being blocked for safety reasons and the town appreciates your co-operation during this time. For your protection, we ask that you do not cross any barriers that are set-up during this process.

This is a request for Proposal for Municipal Court Prosecutor to provide legal services for the Municipal court. This request for proposal is intended to gather pertinent information concerning the ability of an individual attorney or firm to meet the municipal court needs of the Town of Minturn.
The Town of Minturn is interested in establishing an ongoing relationship with an attorney or firm to ensure high quality, necessary, responsive, timely and cost-efficient legal services for the Town of Minturn’s Municipal Court. We expect that the attorney chosen will be experienced in the type of legal services required on an ongoing basis by home rule towns and will be familiar with the legal issues associated with such municipalities. This position will be responsive to the Town Manager yet report directly to the Town Council.
Quality legal services are worth their cost only if the services are focused on the specific needs of the Town. The Town is seeking an attorney or law firm that can establish successful communication and coordination on an ongoing basis with the Municipal Court Judge, Municipal Court Clerk, professional staff, and consultants.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is scheduled to begin a chip seal project along US Highway 24 from Mile Post (MP) 147.18 to Mile Post 169.0. The project is expected to last through September 3, 2010. As a result of this road project, CDOT will have single lane closures throughout this time period.
In addition, there will be reduced speed limits during the active time of road work.
The Minturn Police Department is requesting that you abide by the reduced speed requirements to help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as other motorists. The reduced speed limits will be strictly enforced.
Please be patient during the road construction as when the project has been completed, the road will be more driver friendly.

The Position: the Planning and Zoning Commission reviews and approves design review applications and development proposals based upon the Town’s adopted criteria and ordinances. The Commission also works on updates to the Town’s community plan, zoning ordinances and acts as an advisory body to the Town Council on a variety of planning issues. This is a voluntary position that pays $75.00 per meeting. The Planning and Zoning Commission meets twice a month, 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM at the Minturn Town hall. To be considered for this position, applicants must be a resident of the Town of Minturn for one year and a registered elector of the Town of Minturn.

Proposal Deadline

Sealed Bids for Construction of a 1,300 foot long, 10 foot wide asphalt trail along Highway 24 will be received by the Town of Minturn at the town offices at 302 Pine Street, Minturn, Colorado 81645, until 3:00 p.m. local time on Monday, August 24, 2009 at which time they will be opened and read aloud. The goal for the evening will be to develop a consensus vision statement for the 2009 Community Plan which embodies the essence of where the Town is headed in the next 10, 20 and 30 years.

Town Parking Plan Meeting

At this meeting, the public is invited to discuss the new parking plan that was ap- proved by Town Council in August, 2008. This will provide an opportunity for local citizens and businesses to meet with town staff to ask questions and voice their concerns regarding this plan. Town staff including members from the Police Depart- ment and the Public Works Department will be present to answer questions and concerns.
